And The Winner Is.....

I have just learned how to add a poll to my site. In honor of us seeing "No Country For Old Men" last night, the first poll will be Oscar-related (we are striving to see each of the nominations for Best Picture before the big night, at which time I will vote).

Stay tuned - after next Sunday the poll will be your favorite Super Bowl commercial (of which I am biased of course - I happen to think a certain drink spot should win).

My New Favorite Song

I am loving the song featured in the new MacBook Air commercial. Turns out it is "New Soul" by Yael Naim, and it makes me feel happy and a bit innocent - appropriately, like a new beginning with Spring on its way and all. I can't post the music (though if someone knows how, I would love to learn), but the link here shows the music video, as well as the comercial.

I have a secret.....

Wonder why I have posted so much today? Because I have been at work with Dirk, keeping him company while he finishes off his fabulous Super Bowl commercial! The secret is that I can't say what the spot is until it finishes (OK - I've told a few of you in private already, but you are sworn to secrecy). If I can I'll post the finished product here after next Sunday.......

Restaurant Review, Part 2

Last Friday we went to a great little Italian restaurant on Avenue B called bår-bo-né. It was tiny, but the food was great - a little more creative than your basic Italian fare (I had the duck ravioli). The staff were also really nice, which is probably what I look for #1 in a restaurant (besides food, of course, but if the food is good but the staff isn't I probably won't go back). I would definitely recommend it if you are in the far East Villiage.

Restaurant Review, Part 1

When I first moved to New York, I felt like I was constantly discovering new and interesting places, but had no way of telling everyone - so this is a great forum to do so! Dirk and I love eating out, so I will try to start sharing some of our favorite places (great for you out-of-towners as well, to get ideas of where you want to go the next time you visit)

The Smith is our new favorite local - very brasserie-esque, a wide range of things to choose from for both brunch and dinner, friendly staff, complimentary still AND sparkling water and only about 3 blocks from the apartment! The only bad thing about it is that it's gotten so popular they quoted us an hour wait for a table last night (good thing they take reservations).

Those Google guys come up with everything.....

As usual, Dirk finds the coolest things on the internet and has turned me onto Google Reader, on which you can see which of your favorite sites have been updated and just read the updates as opposed to wasting time logging onto each one individually and checking them. I don't have a ton of websites I check, but it is a helpful tool. Maybe you can use it to see if my blog has been updated (hint, hint).

PS - I am still a bit unsure about the use of trademarked/copyrighted material on blogs, and since I'm not making money off of it I think it is OK but if anyone knows differently please let me know. Obviously, Google did not authorize the use of their logo for this, but I'm complimenting their product so hopefully it is OK.......

So Many Collections, Too Little Space......

I've always liked the idea of collecting things and displaying them as groups (i.e. matchbooks, teacups, pictures) - Dirk and I often fantasize about a new apartment with giant walls to display our art on. Just yesterday I was at a flea market and saw some vintage luggage stickers like the ones above and thought "those would be great to frame and display, but alas we are maxxed out on wallspace so what's the point?" Then I saw this post on Poppytalk and am totally inspired (some of her pictures are below) - looks like I'll be back next weekend to get those stickers after all.......

Michigan Pride

Even though I've lived in NYC for 7 years (yikes, has it been that long?) I will always be a Michigan girl. Which is why I love the idea of the necklaces at  State of Mine - they even put a diamond on where your hometown is (Dirk, do I smell a gift idea? :)
